While you may see thousands of hotel guests yearly at your property, all hotel guests are different. Seasoned hospitality industry veterans already understand that their property needs to attract all types of guests. From family vacations to business trips, every guest has different needs. Here are some types of guests to be aware of in the hospitality industry in 2023 (and yes, we include the enigmatic Gen Z on this list!).
Business People
Businesspeople staying at hotels aren’t primarily looking for entertaining activities or pretty sights; they are just looking for a place to relax after a busy day. Although they are not there for sightseeing, location is still important. They may look for locations near the city for meetings or near restaurants to meet potential clients. To keep your business guests at your property, consider creating areas that go beyond the traditional bare-bones “business center.” Some spaces useful to businesspeople looking for a place to stay are quiet areas to work and meet, such as coffee shops, restaurants, or lobbies. If you are trying to cater to the people of the business industry, stray away from hosting energetic and fast-paced events near quiet areas. A calming, relaxing, and productive space is what business people need to be satisfied with their stay.
Families
On the other hand, families staying at your hotel are most likely looking for an escape from suburban or city life. Hotels for families must have a variety of activities and areas. The kids will be looking for new things to do all the time! There have to be entertainment spaces that are accessible throughout the day, preferably optimized for different age groups. Game lobbies or event areas will keep the kids entertained and will give families options for what they want to do. Although teens and young adults mostly look for entertainment, there must also be relaxing spaces for parents and caretakers to unwind. Vacations can be stressful to plan and execute, so creating opportunities for adult hotel guests to get some peace and quiet away from their kids is crucial.
Gen Z
One of the most challenging audiences to appeal to is Gen Z. While it can be difficult to pinpoint on a calendar where Millennials end and Gen Z begins; each generation has specific trends and preferences that are strikingly different. For example, a must-have trend in hotels was photogenic spots and Instagram-worthy views. This trend was perfect for Millenials, but Gen Z is different. The younger generation looks for something more authentic, immersive, and experimental. When Gen Z people are looking for a place to stay, they are seeking an experience. They’re not looking for just a place to sleep. Not only is a unique style essential, but there must also be experiences that are different and lesser known.
